El Vapor de Brooklyn emerges from the NYC Boricua diaspora, carrying forward the traditions of plena and bomba through a distinctly diasporic lens. Inspired by groups like Los Pleneros de la 21 and Viento de Agua, the Brooklyn-based octet blends tradition with innovation, drawing on jazz, timba, R&B, contemporary music, and reggaeton.

With members rooted in Puerto Rico and New York - including musicians connected to LP21 - the group follows in the spirit of Rafael Cortijo, reimagining Afro-Puerto Rican music for a new generation while staying grounded in its original purpose: telling the stories of its people.

These are those stories - told here, now, and in motion.
